The curious reason behind Rodri's signing K.O.: his height

Real Madrid ruled out the Spanish footballer for several reasons, including his height

Rodrigo Hernández has been linked with Real Madrid in recent months. However, his signing for the white team seems quite complicated due to his status at Manchester City. Meanwhile, the Madrid side did rule out the arrival of another Rodri in the past: Rodri Sánchez.

For anyone who doesn't remember, Rodri Sánchez played for Real Betis, but he headed to Qatar just a year ago. His departure made a big impact in Spain, as it was a case similar to Gabri Veiga's: young, talented, and with a bright future ahead. However, he himself has said that he doesn't regret it at all.

Rodri Sánchez signed for Al Arabia in Qatar, a team he compares to Atlético de Madrid. "Al Arabi is one of the strongest teams here, comparable to Atlético de Madrid in Spain for its history and tradition. Last year maybe it wasn't fully reflected, but it's a very competitive club", the footballer said in a conversation with Marca.

Real Madrid rejected his signing

Rodri Sánchez could have played for Real Madrid in the past, but the striker said that the club itself rejected him.

"Maybe it was a combination of things, yes. I was very young and maybe that's why they didn't see me for that Alevín A. In terms of quality and talent I did stand out, but everything was associated with the physical aspect", explained Rodri Sánchez.

However, the footballer accepted it and moved forward with his career until he reached Betis's first team. "That's how things are. In terms of talent, there were few like me in that sense, but what prevailed was the physical evaluation", he added.

Will he return to Spain?

Marca also asked Rodri Sánchez about his return to Spanish soccer and about his future in five years. "I'd return, obviously. Now's not the time, obviously, but yes, I'd definitely return", said Rodri Sánchez regarding the green-and-white team.

"Well, we'll see what happens, what opportunities arise, the financial offers and all that. Let's not fool ourselves, obviously it depends on many things. But, to tell you the truth, my idea is to return to Spain, to Europe, and play very important things; that's the reality", concluded Rodri.
