David Alaba announces his decision to Madrid, official no matter what happens at the World Cup
Alaba has already decided what he will do this summer regarding his future
At Real Madrid, there are several players whose future is uncertain and will have to solve it this summer. The Club World Cup could be decisive in determining what role they'll have under Xabi Alonso. However, some have already made a decision regarding next season.
This is the case of David Alaba, whose continuity was uncertain for the next campaign. He has a contract until 2026, but there were rumors about a possible contract termination or a move to Saudi Arabia. However, right now it seems unlikely that either of those two options will happen.

Alaba reportedly communicated his decision to Real Madrid, and that is to stay next season. Therefore, one of the departures that seemed most likely for this summer won't happen. Regardless of what happens at the World Cup, the Austrian intends to stay.
He'll finish his contract, so it will be in 2026 when he'll pack his bags to look for a new destination. The club accepts the decision Alaba has made and will respect it. Xabi Alonso will have him at his disposal next season as another option for the back line.
Alaba's role at Real Madrid this season
Not long ago, Alaba was an undisputed starter at Real Madrid due to the level he was showing. However, he suffered a serious injury and after being sidelined for over a year, he returned at the beginning of 2025. Although he hasn't done so at the same level, struggling to regain the necessary rhythm.

In addition, the signing of Dean Huijsen has already been confirmed as a major reinforcement for the defense. Another defender who, along with Rüdiger, Asencio, and Militao, makes it harder for Alaba to get minutes. At least as a center-back, since Xabi Alonso could opt to use him as a pivot or full-back.
These are two positions in which he has played in the past, although it's been a while. Ancelotti opted to use him on the wing against Arsenal, in a decision that didn't work out very well. So it's not expected that Xabi will repeat it, considering him as another man for the defensive rotation.
