Edu Aguirre explodes after the robbery against Real Madrid versus Espanyol: The most serious...

The panelist didn't understand how the tackle wasn't penalized with a red card, and the least comprehensible part is how he hasn't gone to the VAR to review it.

Edu Aguirre couldn't contain his outrage after the controversial refereeing in the match between Espanyol and Real Madrid. The journalist from El Chiringuito exploded on social media after Carlos Romero's foul on Mbappé.

"He didn't even go to see it at the VAR"

Aguirre's message on his X account was clear: "One of the most serious things I've ever seen". His anger was focused on referee Muñiz Ruiz's decision not to send off Carlos Romero after a very harsh tackle on the French forward.

In the 61st minute, Mbappé started off at speed when Espanyol's wing-back planted his studs into his calf. The action was very untimely and with a risk of injury. However, the referee only showed a yellow card.

The VAR didn't intervene either, which further outraged Madridists. "He didn't even go to see it at the VAR", Aguirre insisted, joined by a look of disbelief.

Outrage among Madridists

The anger wasn't just from Aguirre. Ancelotti also made his disagreement clear in a press conference: "Everyone saw it... it was a clear red".

Social media was filled with criticism of the refereeing. Many fans recalled other send-offs for similar tackles that were sanctioned with a red card.

Romero's action wasn't the only controversy of the match. In the 21st minute, the referee disallowed a goal by Vinícius for an alleged prior foul by Mbappé.

With the 1-0 defeat, Madrid loses ground in the fight for the lead. Now, the focus is on the classic against Atlético, where they expect fairer refereeing.
