Edu Aguirre says enough: the confession about Leo Messi that Cristiano won't like

Edu Aguirre acknowledged Messi's quality after his stunning free-kick goal against Porto, but he believes that he doesn't have European pace

Edu Aguirre has once again become a protagonist. The journalist, well known for his close friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo, has made statements about Leo Messi that are already sparking conversation. Although his words include praise, they also leave a clear message: for him, Messi is no longer fit to play in Europe.

Everything happened in Miami, after the stunning free-kick goal Messi scored against Porto in the Club World Cup. A goal that sparked a standing ovation in the stadium, but didn't change Aguirre's opinion.

"He'll keep doing it at 75, but..."

"The goal he scored today, which is a great goal, he'll keep scoring even when he's 70 or 75 years old (70 or 75 years old)," Aguirre began in his remarks. "Because Messi, every time he touches the ball, is a difference-maker."

But then came the more critical nuance: "The thing is, he plays while walking. Literally. He doesn't go forward, he doesn't go back. Either you pass the ball to his feet or he won't go for it."

He added: "I don't see him with the pace of a winning team in Europe. I don't see him..."

Aguirre's statements have surprised some, partly because he himself keeps a very close friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo. It's common to see him defending the Portuguese footballer on television and showing his public support on social media.

However, it's worth remembering that both Cristiano and Messi have praised each other on several occasions. Despite the historic rivalry, both have shown respect and admiration. Even in recent interviews, Cristiano himself acknowledged that Messi's career has been "brilliant" and that together they've defined an unrepeatable era.

Messi has done the same, recognizing the greatness of the Portuguese "7" at different times.

The debate reignites

On social media, Aguirre's comment has caused all kinds of reactions. Some support him for "saying what many think," while others criticize him for downplaying a Messi who continues to make a difference, even in the final years of his career.

The truth is that the phrase "Messi will score great goals until he's 75... but he's not fit for Europe" has already left its mark. Coming from a close friend of Cristiano, it has even more impact.
