Florentino had no choice but to cancel the signing, he regrets it: 'He's very good'

He was very well liked, but an unexpected problem arose that made them give up on him

Real Madrid has had to make important decisions over the past few years. One of them was canceling a signing that would have been big news for the club. However, Florentino had no choice but to stop it, and now he regrets having done so.

Years ago, Real Madrid was considering signing Nuno Mendes and they were close. They saw him as the best possible left-back to strengthen the position, even for a decade. He was a player who had structural importance for many years.

However, it was in 2020 when his arrival from Sporting CP was about to happen. That was when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, which forced Real Madrid to make a decision. They canceled all possible signings that could have been completed that summer for the club.

That event led Jorge Mendes, Nuno's agent, to push him to sign for PSG. He joined the Parisian side, where he has gone on to shine as one of the best left-backs. In fact, Florentino has told his inner circle that he regrets it because "he's very good."

Real Madrid hasn't lost sight of him during this time

Since he signed for PSG, Real Madrid hasn't lost sight of Nuno Mendes and his performances. They are delighted with him and know that he is proving what they knew he was going to do. That's why they regret not having completed his arrival because of everything it would have meant.

In fact, this summer Real Madrid has had to look for a left-back in the market. If they had managed to sign Nuno Mendes, it would have solved all the problems with the position. However, since it didn't happen, they have set their sights on Álvaro Carreras, who is close to being made official.

However, they are still paying close attention to Nuno, in case there is any chance to complete his signing. Although last February he renewed his contract with PSG until 2029, showing his desire to stay. This makes his arrival at Real Madrid in the short term more difficult despite the interest.
