Florentino makes the call: negotiations begin for this top-level defender
Real Madrid's President has contacted Liverpool to find out the figures for the Konaté deal
Real Madrid have set things in motion. Florentino Pérez has already made a move to sign one of the most sought-after center-backs at the moment: Ibrahima Konaté.
According to the French outlet L’Équipe, the club has already contacted Liverpool. They want to know what figure could make them change their mind this summer (verano).
In Valdebebas, they see Konaté as a strategic opportunity. They like his profile, his age fits, and his contract situation makes him a potential key signing.
Madrid tests an initial offer
Real Madrid's initial idea would be to make a proposal of around €20 or €25 million ($21.8 or $27.2 million). It's not a low figure, but it's far from what Liverpool are demanding.

The English club would value Konaté at about €50 million ($54.4 million), a big difference, though not insurmountable. From England, they acknowledge that the 26-year-old player has already rejected two contract renewal offers and his contract expires in 2026. Time is starting to work against Liverpool.
Madrid, meanwhile, believe they can take advantage of that lack of agreement to make a firm offer. They don't want to wait until 2026, much less risk a bidding war with other European giants.
Replacement for a demanding defense
The Club World Cup has been a real test for the squad. Injuries to Alaba, Militão, and doubts about Rüdiger and Asencio have pushed the club to speed up their moves.
Ibrahima Konaté fits the profile Xabi Alonso is looking for: fast, physical, and experienced in big matches. Tactically, he can adapt to both a four-man defense and a three-center-back system. In addition, he still has room for improvement.

Florentino wants to finalize the signing before August 20. That's the deadline set in the offices at Bernabéu. If there's no renewal from the player, Liverpool could be forced to sell.
The French center-back is aware of Real Madrid's interest. He knows they like his name and that he could become one of the pillars of the future.
Talks have already begun. There's no agreement yet, but there is a firm intention. Madrid are serious about Konaté, and everything suggests this won't be the last defensive move of the summer.
