Florentino rejects it, asks for a $15M salary per year, and says goodbye to Real Madrid

Florian Wirtz will earn €15 million ($16.3 million) per season at Liverpool, which must be added to the €150 million ($163 million) transfer fee

Real Madrid has dropped out of the race for Florian Wirtz. The young German talent has been ruled out as a reinforcement for Los Blancos for a clear reason: his salary.

According to Sky Sports, Wirtz will earn a base salary of €12 million ($12 million) per year at his next destination. This figure could reach €15 million ($15 million) per season if he meets individual and team objectives. That is, more than €245,000 ($245,000) per week.

Florentino doesn't join the bidding

Florentino Pérez has made a firm decision. Real Madrid is not willing to match those terms. On top of that, his signing would cost €150 million ($150 million) as a transfer fee.

This operation, when added to the salary, breaks any financial balance in a squad that features stars like Mbappé, Vinícius, or Bellingham.

Bernabéu officials believe it is not worth it. Wirtz is a talent for both the present and the future, yes, but the club prefers to keep its wage structure under control. They do not want to repeat a case like Eden Hazard, who cost a fortune and delivered limited performance.

Heading to Liverpool

With Madrid out of the equation, Liverpoolhas the signing of the Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder on track. It is willing to pay whatever it takes.

The new project at Anfield, with Arne Slot as champion of England in his first season, considers Wirtz a priority. The contract figures would place him among the highest-paid players on the team, only behind Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds' plan is clear: rejuvenate the squad with top footballers. Wirtz, who has excelled under Xabi Alonso's management in recent seasons, fits perfectly into that profile.

Madrid moves on

Meanwhile, Real Madrid remains focused on closing other deals. This season, the task was to strengthen the defensive line, and that has been achieved with Huijsen, Arnold, and the addition of Carreras still pending.

Wirtz was favored by part of the coaching staff, but never an absolute priority. With these numbers on the table, the decision has been clear: let him go.

Madrid is keeping the option open for the future, but as of today, Wirtz will not wear white.
