One of the major stories of this summer transfer window is Vinícius not renewing his contract with Real Madrid. Despite the preliminary agreement reached between the club and the player, the latter broke it after increasing his financial demands. "I'll never renew anyone who thinks they're above the club" were Florentino Pérez's words in response to Vinícius's intentions.
Real Madrid president is looking to keep the Brazilian winger on the team. However, given Vinícius's recent attitude, Florentino has demanded a change regarding this. According to journalist Tomás González Martín, the decision has been made to set the summer of 2026 as the deadline for the renewal.
As we know at Defensa Central, the representatives threatened to wait until 2027. This is with the clear goal of allowing Vinícius to leave as a free agent. However, Real Madrid has remained firm in its decision to set next summer as the deadline.
Florentino Pérez's determination
Having been part of Real Madrid since 2018, Vinícius Júnior is one of the team's most important players. Despite his highly inconsistent performance during the first seasons, Vinícius managed to establish himself as a true star. His numbers from last season show this to some extent, with Vinícius scoring 22 goals and providing 19 assists.
Despite these impressive numbers, his performance left much to be desired. Vinícius, during the most important matches of the season, never managed to show up as he had in previous years. Because of this, Real Madrid has refused to meet his demands.
In order to renew, Vinícius demanded a net salary of €30 million per season. The Brazilian, through this, is clearly seeking a salary similar to Mbappé's. However, if he wants to negotiate, Vinícius will have to improve his level this season.
The renewal for 2026
Real Madrid, once again, has shown its patience by having no problem waiting until 2026. The salary demanded by Vinícius, besides being excessive, was not reflected in his performance last season. His renewal, while it hasn't been ruled out, could be in danger of being so.
