For €20M, he says goodbye to Madrid to sign with Atlético, Florentino gives the OK
Theo Hernández is close to returning to Madrid, but his signing will be for Atlético, not Real Madrid
Theo Hernández is very close to returning to Madrid. But in the end, not to Real Madrid, where he dreamed of returning, but to Atlético. The red-and-white club is negotiating his transfer for €20 million ($21.8 million) with Milan.
Real Madrid had him on their list. He was one of the alternatives if Álvaro Carreras didn't arrive. However, Los Blancos didn't take action. That has opened the door to their eternal rival.
Theo wanted to return to Bernabéu, but the lack of concrete moves from Florentino Pérez has been key. Los Blancos are prioritizing other options and are keeping firm on investing only in Carreras. That passivity has left the way clear for Atlético.
Economic gap with Milan
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Atlético has already made an offer of €17 million ($18.5 million). But Milan is asking for more:€27 million ($29.2 million).

The difference is significant, but at Metropolitano they are optimistic. They believe an agreement could be reached around €20 million ($21.8 million). In that scenario, Florentino has already given the green light for the full-back, a former Los Blancos player, to join the neighboring club.
Milan, meanwhile, won't put up major obstacles if the final offer comes close to their demands. Theo has shown interest in returning to Spain, and his cycle at San Siro seems to be over.
A return to the past
Theo Hernández was developed in Atlético's youth academy, although his breakthrough came at Alavés. From there, he moved to Real Madrid, where he never managed to establish himself. In 2019, he was transferred to Milan for just €20 million ($21.8 million).

Now, six years later, the circle could be completed. He would return to the club where he grew up, but as a star.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, is focused on closing the deal for Carreras and monitoring the development of youth players like Yusi and Aguado.
With this move, Theo would become one of the summer's top deals in LaLiga. He would do so by definitively leaving behind any option of returning to Bernabéu.
Florentino has decided not to hinder his departure. Theo's future points to Metropolitano.
