From Real Madrid to Atleti, there's an agreement and the signing could be imminent
The Atlético de Madrid star is looking to sign despite interest from Real Madrid
The rivalry between Real Madrid and Atlético has led them to face each other several times during transfer windows. While the white club always emerges victorious, this time could be different. According to what we know at Defensa Central, Atlético de Madrid is interested in signing Cuti Romero.
The Argentine center-back from Tottenham remained for several months as one of Real Madrid's interests. However, the team ended up ruling out his signing to bet on Dean Huijsen this summer and Konaté the next. Only because of this does Atlético have a chance to carry out this signing.
Even so, the operation won't be easy at all due to Romero's importance at Tottenham. While Atlético has an agreement, this doesn't guarantee this transfer. The English club will fight until the end to keep the Argentine center-back in its squad.
Real Madrid's rejection
At 27 years old, Cristian Romero is one of the most important players at Tottenham Hotspur. Having been part of the team since 2022, Romero didn't take long to stand out. Last season was Romero's most important at the club, as he was one of those responsible for winning the Europa League.

Playing a total of 2,102 min. (2,102 minutes) last season, Romero was important despite his injuries. For the next campaign, under Thomas Frank's leadership, Tottenham has made the Argentine the team's captain.
This is a move with which they clearly seek to keep the player and prevent his departure. Atlético, despite this, trusts it can succeed in this operation. By not having to compete against Real Madrid for this signing, Atlético knows that, at least, it can try to finalize the transfer.
After Real Madrid's leftovers
Since its foundation, Real Madrid is known for always signing the best of the best. That's why Romero's rejection makes it clear that the center-back didn't meet the club's demands. Atlético's interest shows the low standards the club has with its transfers.
