Jude Bellingham won't play again for several months. The heavy defeat suffered by Real Madrid against PSG (4-0) was also the Englishman's last match before undergoing surgery.
The midfielder will have shoulder surgery after the Club World Cup final. He'll be out for between three and four months. This decision was made weeks ago, but it was kept on hold due to the importance of the tournament.
Xabi Alonso replaced him in the second half, a gesture that shows his situation. Jude isn't comfortable. He plays in pain, and the club, together with the footballer himself, have already made the final decision.
More than a year playing injured
Bellingham has been dealing with this problem since November 2023. It was during a league match against Rayo Vallecano when he dislocated his left shoulder. Since then, he has lived with the discomfort.
The temporary solution was to play with a special sling. But Jude admitted he's exhausted: “I'm tired of playing with the sling. It's hot, I sweat a lot, and I'm losing weight. I just want to feel free again.”
The Englishman had already confirmed his plans after being named MVP against Pachuca. “I have surgery planned for after the final,” he said in the mixed zone. “I'm losing patience with this.”
He will miss the start of the season
The surgery is scheduled for after July 13. From then on, a recovery period of between three and four months is expected. That means Bellingham won't be ready for the start of La Liga.
The domestic competition will begin on August 15. Xabi Alonso won't be able to count on one of his key pieces until mid-October at the earliest. He'll even miss the first rounds of the Champions League.
Even so, both the club and the player are convinced. This surgery will put an end to a very tough year physically for Jude. It will allow the Englishman to regain his best form with Real Madrid.
Real Madrid needs him at 100%. Jude also needs to feel free again. Now, the time has come to stop.
