Guardiola doesn't stay silent and throws a jab at Madrid for firing Ancelotti: 'Look...'

The Catalan coach has engaged in self-criticism regarding his poor season and wanted to compare himself to Ancelotti and his dismissal from Real Madrid

Pep Guardiola has once again taken aim at Real Madrid. In the midst of reflecting on his difficult season at Manchester City, the Catalan coach hasn't hesitated to send a message to the white team for their decision to part ways with Carlo Ancelotti after a poor season.

The City coach has experienced his worst campaign since arriving in England: out of the Champions League in the round of 16 against Madrid, eliminated from the League Cup also in that same round, a painful defeat in the FA Cup final. A lackluster year, masked by the third place in the Premier League that'll allow him to play in the Champions League next season.

In an interview with Premier Corner by Guinness 0.0 on DAZN, Guardiola admitted that this time he couldn't change the course: "I'm usually able to turn these situations around. This time it wasn't like that. It was too much for me".

Dart at Real Madrid

The most striking moment came when he compared himself to what's happening in Spain. There he pointed directly at Madrid:

"With the season we've had, if this were Spain, by October or November I'd have already been fired. At Barça or at Madrid I wouldn't have lasted. Here it wasn't even considered".

There came the direct mention of Ancelotti: "Look at Carlo. Not long ago he won the Champions League and La Liga. Now he's going to coach Brazil".

A subtle but direct criticism. Guardiola defends the patience of English soccer and questions the impatience of the major Spanish clubs.

Lamine is a chosen one, but he's not Messi

Additionally, the coach took the opportunity to talk about new stars like Lamine Yamal: "What he's doing at 17 years old isn't normal. He has an unbelievable understanding of the game and knows when to speed up and when to slow down. He seems like he's 25".

However, he doesn't want to fall into comparisons: "He's very good, but he's not Messi. I'm sorry, but there'll never be anyone like Leo. Never".

Guardiola, with his sharp truth, hasn't avoided any topic and wanted to engage in self-criticism. He also wanted to defend long-term work and took the opportunity to call for respect for coaches. A comparison that can be interpreted as an attack on Real Madrid.
