A historic embarrassment for Atlético comes to light: K.O. in two Madridist signings
The Colchoneros are exposed when trying to compete with Real Madrid
Atlético has come from season after season of failure without being able to compete for the titles. In fact, its goal has been to qualify for the Champions League, which at times has even been at risk. To avoid that, it has made a significant investment in the market by bringing in several important signings.
Looking ahead to this summer, it set several goals that, however, it couldn't achieve. In fact, it saw that it couldn't compete with Real Madrid and its project. ESPN has revealed the red-and-whites' attempts to sign Álvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono.

Atlético had both footballers on its radar and even made some moves to tempt them. However, it ended up seeing that it couldn't do anything once Real Madrid entered the picture. Los Merengues were a much more special destination for the Galician and the Argentine.
Carreras had already been at Los Merengues, spending time at La Fábrica before leaving for Manchester United. So, returning was something that made him very excited. But Mastantuono didn't hesitate either, since the greatness of Los Blancos can't be compared to Los Colchoneros.
Neither Atlético nor Barça can match Real Madrid
In recent years, we've seen how in Spain there have been attempts to belittle Real Madrid with media campaigns. The aim was to disparage Los Merengues, all in an effort to try to elevate Atlético and Barça. They wanted their rivals to have a bit more relevance since they had no options.

But we've seen how their attempts haven't had any impact beyond our borders. In the market, Atlético has come face to face with reality this summer. Neither Carreras nor Mastantuono took the red-and-whites' offer seriously compared to that of Los Merengues.
The Culers have also suffered heavy blows even though they present themselves as a big club. The truth is, they said Endrick and Arda Güler were eager to sign for Barça and that they had them secured. But the reality is that when Real Madrid entered the picture, they couldn't compete with Los Blancos.
