James Rodríguez's Confession About Zidane and His Departure from Real Madrid: 'When...'

The Colombian footballer spoke on 'Los Amigos de Edu' about his time at Real Madrid

James Rodríguez, former footballer for Real Madrid, currently at Club León de México, participated in the program "Los Amigos de Edu". During the interview, the Colombian player shared his experiences, including his time at the Madrid club.

"During the World Cup, Jorge Mendes told me that Real Madrid wanted me, he warned me and said 'don't lose focus eh' and that gave me more strength. Right after that was the match against Japan, where I came in and scored a goal, then against Uruguay I scored two goals. (...) I was 22 years old and I said: 'Now I have to play better and that's when I got the World Cup Golden Boot", he commented regarding the call from Real Madrid.

How Was His Signing for Real Madrid Managed?

"City and PSG also wanted me, they offered a lot of money for me, very high salaries like those paid right now. I chose Madrid because Florentino called me and said: 'glory or money?'. I've always been a Madridist, Real Madrid is Real Madrid", he stated.

"When I arrived in Madrid I thought: 'How am I going to talk to Ramos, Karim, Modric, Cristiano or Iker?'. But I arrived and they were all very calm as if they had played in the neighborhood. Florentino Pérez has always treated me well", explained James Rodríguez.

"I haven't talked to him for a long time but I think I've always been one of his favorites, he said: 'What a shame', when I left. I arrived when Ancelotti arrived, we were in the team with Kroos, Isco, Benzema, and Bale and I thought he wouldn't put me in the first match. I had only trained for five days, but he put me as a starter, I played 60 minutes", he completed.

His Relationship with Zinedine Zidane

Additionally, Edu Aguirre wanted to ask James Rodríguez about the figure of Zinedine Zidane. The Colombian was under the orders of the French legend, but he didn't have much presence in the key days with him.

"Zidane has always been my idol. Sometimes he would start training in a session and had more quality than all of us. When Zidane arrived, there was a lot of buzz in the press", he stated.

"Nothing happened to me with him. I wasn't angry with him as it was said, but he found a great team in which I didn't fit. I played with him but in the key matches he didn't put me, he put Kroos, Casemiro, and Modric and that's respectable", completed James Rodríguez.
