Joselu Responds About Julián Álvarez's Penalty and Knocks Out Manu Carreño on SER
Discussions about what happened at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano haven't ended yet
One of the controversies surrounding Real Madrid, even during the March international break, is related to their last Champions League match. Carlo Ancelotti's players defeated Atlético de Madrid in the penalty shootout of the second leg of the round of 16 with much tension and excitement. The resolution of that shootout has sparked all kinds of comments.
Especially regarding the penalty by Julián Álvarez. Atlético de Madrid's '19' managed to beat Thibaut Courtois, but he did so with a double touch on the ball. That circumstance is strictly prohibited according to UEFA regulations, so Szymon Marciniak annulled the shot by the forward from Calchín.

Real Madrid didn't waste that advantage and ended up eliminating the colchonero team in their own stadium. In addition to the comments and analyses made during these two weeks, Joselu Mato hasn't missed the opportunity to offer his view of the penalty on Cadena SER. Asked about this matter by Manu Carreño, the former '14' blanco made it clear that he had indeed seen what happened with the penalty.
The veteran forward points out that, thanks to the images, "we've clearly seen that the ball is touched twice. In that concept, I do understand that VAR helps a lot for this type of action, in others, other things can happen", notes the striker born in Stuttgart. "Those from Atleti and Barça will never see two touches, even if it's clearly seen that the ball is touched with both boots, in the end, it's clear", he concludes.
Honest Opinion
Manu Carreño replies: "not even Madridists will see a touch", making it clear that practically no supporter of the white club would support the colchonero version of this controversial play. Joselu acknowledges that the host of 'El Larguero' is right, but it's not the only thing the former merengue striker wants to say about this matter.
"If you want, I'll take a neutral position", says Joselu, to escape the debate of the clubs involved in this striking controversy. "I have seen footage and it is true that it's clearly seen that the ball is touched twice", warns Joselu.

The former Real Madrid forward doesn't finish: "whether it's slight or not, the rule is the rule. For some, it will sometimes benefit, and for others, it will harm", making it clear that Real Madrid could also have been affected by a rule that FIFA and IFAB intend to change. What happened at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano has sparked an interesting debate in the high regulatory bodies of world soccer.
Be that as it may, Joselu makes it clear that Julián Álvarez touched the ball twice before beating Thibaut Courtois in his penalty. The former Real Madrid player once again concludes a debate in which even UEFA was forced to intervene through the publication of an official statement.
