Reinier still hasn't reached the top-level with his signing and Real Madrid is considering terminating his contract
Reinier Jesús's future at Real Madrid is more uncertain than ever. Five years after his arrival, the Brazilian still hasn't made his debut with the first team and Florentino Pérez is already considering a drastic measure.
Reinier was signed in January 2020 from Flamengo. He cost about €30 million. The idea was to repeat the formula used with Vinicius and Rodrygo: young, talented, and with room to grow.
However, something went wrong; the pandemic hit just when he was supposed to take his first steps with Castilla. He only played three matches in the now-defunct Segunda B. After that, he began a series of loans with no clear direction.
Loans and missed opportunities
His first experience was at Borussia Dortmund. Two years almost without playing and only 741 minutes in total. Then came Girona. Another season without continuity: only five matches as a starter.
In the 2023/24 season, he played for Italian side Frosinone. He finally surpassed 1,000 minutes (1,000 min.), but his performance was inconsistent. Three goals and two assists, but the team ended up being relegated.
Last season, he tried his luck at Granada, already in the second division. It was his season with the most minutes: 1,399 min. He scored one goal and provided four assists.
Despite that improvement, it wasn't enough for Real Madrid to consider including him.
Dead end
Reinier has a contract until 2026, but he isn't part of Xabi Alonso's plans. His return to Castilla isn't being considered either. The club is looking for a definitive exit.
If no interesting offer arrives, those at Valdebebas already assume they'll have to follow the same path as with Hazard: contract termination and freedom to sign with another club.
The player, who is 23 years old, still has time to relaunch his career. However, he needs stability and playing time.
Real Madrid can't wait any longer. The project moves forward and Reinier doesn't fit in. His story, which began with excitement, seems to be coming to an end and Florentino, even if he doesn't like it, is ready to make the toughest decision.
