Lamine Yamal Is Already a Problem for Barça, Laporta Wants to Cut It at the Root
Barça isn't willing for the young player to repeat the same patterns as Leo Messi when it comes to renewing his contract
In one of his latest press appearances, Lamine Yamal has made it clear that he will not address the topic of his renewal for now. The FC Barcelona star prefers to wait until the end of the season, when everything is more than decided.
According to the newspaper AS, the extension of the young forward from Rocafonda's contract will not be a simple process. However, there is a sense of calm from his camp. In fact, Jorge Mendes insisted that his continuity at the blaugrana club is "guaranteed one hundred percent".

What Is Happening with Lamine Yamal?
In the summer of 2023, and still a minor, Lamine Yamal signed his renewal with FC Barcelona until 2026. The duration could not be longer, as regulations prevent minors from signing contracts longer than three years. However, in that same agreement, preliminary conditions were defined for a possible extension of the bond until 2030.
Those initially agreed conditions have become obsolete, leading both parties to resume talks. The club's objective is clear: to offer him a staggered contract, thus avoiding making the same mistakes, as happened with Messi.
Barça Doesn't Want to Make the Same Mistake Twice
During his time at Barcelona, the Argentine forward signed a total of nine renewals. The first occurred when he was 18 years old, under the presidency of Joan Laporta. In June 2005, he extended his contract until 2010, but in September of that same year, the board decided to improve his financial conditions.
In 2007, Leo Messi signed a new extension, this time until 2014, and in 2008 a new revision of his contract was agreed upon. In 2009, he renewed again with Barcelona, shortly after achieving the club's first treble.

Leo Messi enjoyed a period of stability until 2012, when he returned to the presidential office for a new extension. Two years later, in 2014, before his participation in the World Cup, he signed a new contract. The eighth renewal occurred in June 2017, and only five months later, the ninth came.
Given what has been seen so far, the pattern at Barça is clear. Joan Laporta wants to reward Lamine Yamal for his level and importance in the team. However, the club wants to avoid past problems, as the economic situation is not yet the best.
