Real Madrid's Last-Minute Move to Transfer Alphonso Davies in One Week
The future of the Canadian "19" is a mystery that extends longer than Real Madrid would like
Real Madrid's objectives for the 2025 summer market are becoming increasingly defined. The vicissitudes experienced by the first team in the four months of the 24/25 season have led to unexpected changes in the roadmap of the executives led by Florentino Pérez.
However, now there's no turning back: the Madrid bosses have accepted these changes, adapting their transfer strategies. The main focus, for some time now, is the defense. Not surprisingly, Carlo Ancelotti, even before taking a vacation during the 2024 summer, requested additions in that area.
Although without much success, since the failure in the "Yoro case" was met with absolute inaction from the Valdebebas offices. Even in the face of Nacho Fernández's departure, who had formed an implacable defensive duo with Antonio Rüdiger during the 23/24 season. Besides strengthening the core of the defense, there are other positions that are also being worked on.
The wingers are going through an unstable situation. On the right side, there are barely any players, a situation the sports management would like to solve with the transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool's "66" would arrive as a free agent, just as Lucas Vázquez ends his time in Santiago Bernabéu changing room.
Race against time
While it's true that on the other side of the defense there's no urgency to increase the number of players, it could become a problem. The irregular performance of Ferland Mendy since his renewal has left many doubts about his future, and Alphonso Davies is seen as his replacement.
As long as the white executives manage to secure his services as a free agent in the summer of 2025. However, the board led by Pérez wouldn't want to wait for seven months and would be prepared to push during January to achieve a definitive and immediate decision.
Especially because the white club has several "plan B's" for Davies himself, players with a similar fit but who will require much more negotiating effort... as they are players under contract with their respective clubs. Despite everything, the goal remains to secure the services of "19" as soon as possible.
The definitive approach to the current Munich player will be made at the end of the year, offering him the possibility to seal his future as a Meringue from the 2025 summer. If not, Real Madrid might understand that Davies is not interested... and would move away completely and definitively from the full-back to seek other options in the market.
