L'Équipe reveals Real Madrid's K.O. to the Ballon d'Or

The plans Real Madrid had for this year's Ballon d'Or gala have been revealed

After last year's controversial gala, the Ballon d'Or became a highly questioned award. With the clear winner of last season being Vinícius Júnior, the trophy ended up in Rodri's hands. Because of this, and according to information from the newspaper L'Équipe, Real Madrid won't attend this season's gala either.

Just like last year, the Ballon d'Or won't have any Real Madrid members present. This is a decision that keeps showing the club's stance regarding this award. Although Vinícius Júnior's situation is now over, Real Madrid still hasn't forgotten or forgiven what happened during the last gala.

Because of this, this upcoming September 22, the Théâtre du Châtelet won't have the presence of the best club in the world. Real Madrid, after everything it has achieved throughout its history, doesn't seek to be associated with this controversial gala. Even though the award's credibility has weakened over the years, last season buried everything.

A stance for posterity

The Ballon d'Or is one of the most famous awards in the entire world of soccer, recognizing the best player of each season. While it has had some controversies, none like last season's. According to what we know at Defensa Central, Vinícius Júnior already had everything ready to receive what would have been his first Ballon d'Or.

However, Rodri, whose season hadn't been outstanding, was the winner to Real Madrid's surprise. Learning about all this just hours before the gala began, the club took action. While it was thought that its absence from the gala would only be for last season, Real Madrid has shown otherwise.

The club keeps its stance regarding an award that has lost all credibility. Not having the best team on the planet is, without a doubt, a hard blow for the Ballon d'Or gala. Clearly, the club seeks certain changes to be made to prevent controversies like those that happened last year from happening again.

There are more important awards

Although the Ballon d'Or was controversial, The Best award did recognize Vinícius as the best player in the world. The award created by FIFA in 2016 proved to be much more credible and reliable than the historic Ballon d'Or. Unless changes are made to the golden award, it could start to decline against other more relevant prizes.
