Lucas Vázquez, heading to Germany, deal closed for two seasons

The former Real Madrid footballer has found a destination after weeks of uncertainty

Real Madrid is finishing the process of reorganizing the locker room at Santiago Bernabéu. The changes that have occurred in the first team during the summer of 2025, in the midst of a whole Club World Cup, have caused a lot of confusion in certain aspects. Xabi Alonso's coaching staff, in the first matchdays of La Liga, is working hard to end that feeling.

One of those changes has featured Lucas Vázquez. After a 24/25 season that was certainly inconsistent, the Galician full-back ended his relationship with Real Madrid. The decade the footballer has spent defending the badge of the club presided over by Florentino Pérez has brought him much competitive glory and titles.

Lucas Vázquez himself was clear that it's too soon to step away from professional soccer for good. That's why he has kept in shape, training privately at his home, as he has made sure to remind everyone through social media. The former "17" of Real Madrid has remained until now in active search of a team.

Fortunately, he won't have to search any longer: he's already a Bayer Leverkusen player. In an unexpected twist in this summer's transfer market, Lucas Vázquez has reportedly convinced the werkself board of the suitability of his signing. The information published by Fabrizio Romano, amid the most notable saga over Dani Ceballos, leaves no room for doubt.

End of the saga

The Italian reporter indicated, during the last hours of yesterday, Monday, August 25, that Lucas Vázquez was a new player for the German squad. Fabrizio Romano has also pointed out that all the procedures were completed "secretly," including the medical examination that would have cemented Lucas's move to the German side.

According to the Italian journalist, the agreement between the former Real Madrid full-back and Bayer Leverkusen will be signed today, Tuesday, August 26. It will be then that Lucas Vázquez will officially become a new player for the German squad and will definitively join the sports discipline previously led by Xabi Alonso.

After several weeks of uncertainty, Lucas Vázquez has found a new team in which to continue his sports career. The possibility that the veteran 32-year-old footballer would start the 25/26 season without a team was becoming more and more real as the weeks went by. But with just a few days left before the transfer window closes, the former "17" Madridist shows that he keeps being a relevant player.

It remains to be seen what role his new coach, Erik ten Hag, will give him in building the German team. The departure of Jeremie Frimpong has notably affected the right flank both in defense and attack. That's why the signing of a Lucas Vázquez could be the replacement the Dutch coach needs for the player, now at Liverpool.
