Lunin reacts to Courtois's contract renewal, gives the order to Jorge Mendes: 'I can't...'

The stance Andriy Lunin has taken regarding his future at Real Madrid in light of Courtois's contract renewal

Despite the serious injury he suffered two seasons ago, Courtois is still the best goalkeeper in the world. Real Madrid, given the high level he has kept, is close to renewing his contract. This led him to talk with his agent, Jorge Mendes, to reveal his decision regarding the future: "I can't leave now that my moment is approaching."

Words that clearly show Lunin's stance regarding his role at Real Madrid. Although Courtois will remain at Real Madrid, Lunin trusts it won't be for long. According to what we know at Defensa Central, Lunin believes Courtois will be the starter for 1 or 2 more years.

Because of this, Lunin doesn't want to leave Real Madrid so he doesn't lose the opportunity to be the starting goalkeeper. After proving his worth, Lunin seeks to keep a certain level of prominence. His dream of being the starting goalkeeper, apparently, hasn't disappeared.

Lunin's decision

During Thibaut Courtois's injury, Real Madrid had to turn to Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian goalkeeper, after years, finally had the opportunity to show his level. Although he first had to surpass Kepa Arrizabalaga, Lunin managed to win the starting spot until Courtois's full recovery and return.

His great performance put him on the radar of several major European clubs. However, Lunin ended up renewing his contract with Real Madrid until 2030. A decision that was made with the clear goal of becoming the team's starting goalkeeper.

His recent stance regarding Courtois's renewal reflects his commitment to the team. Being able to leave for another club, Lunin prefers to keep loyal to Real Madrid. An attitude influenced, to some extent, by the fact that the club always competes for everything.

The future goalkeeper of Real Madrid

At 26 years old, Lunin is more than old enough to keep developing as a goalkeeper. Even with the few minutes he'll have at Real Madrid, Lunin remains firm in his goal. After enjoying the starting spot for a season, Lunin wants to secure it.
