Lunin, 'Threatened' by Real Madrid's goalkeeper move
Real Madrid's future plan for its goal puts Andriy Lunin's continuity at risk
The goal for Real Madrid still has the Belgian, Thibaut Courtois, as its undisputed starter. Andriy Lunin, once again, is the backup goalkeeper, although his future could change due to the club's plans. According to Defensa Central, there is trust at Real Madrid that Fran González will end up being part of the first team.
The Spanish goalkeeper has already had playing time with Real Madrid, delivering more than outstanding performances. Although he has kept his place as a member of Castilla, his promotion to the first team is becoming increasingly possible. This, clearly, raises serious doubts about Lunin's future at Real Madrid.
Since the 23/24 season, the Ukrainian goalkeeper has managed to show that he has what it takes to be the starter. Although he has kept waiting for another opportunity at Real Madrid, Courtois still enjoys the team's trust. Fran's promotion could mean that, looking ahead to the next transfer window, Lunin leaves the team.
The question with Lunin
At just 20 years old, Fran González is one of the great talents in Real Madrid's youth academy. Having trained at "La Fábrica" since 2022, Fran managed to reach Castilla last summer. Standing at nearly 6 ft 7 in (almost 2 meters) tall, Fran has managed to stand out for his quick reflexes and his ability to anticipate the opponent.

After playing a match with the first team last season, Fran impressed with his quality. His confidence with the gloves was, above all, one of the most surprising qualities of the goalkeeper. Although he has kept playing for Castilla this season, Real Madrid is seriously considering giving him a place in the first team.
Although Lunin is still focused on fighting for the starting spot against Courtois, this could change his plans. While Lunin is still a young goalkeeper, 26 years old, Fran is gaining more and more prominence. Finding a new team, should he consider leaving, wouldn't be a problem given the offers he has received in the past.
The trust in Fran
In addition to the doubts about Lunin's future, this situation shows the trust that Real Madrid has in Fran González. If he becomes part of the first team, the Spaniard could learn everything necessary from Courtois. A great mentor for a goalkeeper who could end up being the starter and Courtois's successor in a future season.
