Madrid says 'no' to this top-tier player for summer despite being free: there's a reason

He could come for free, but they have decided to rule out his signing.

Real Madrid has specialized in signing great players in the last year of their contract. The possibility of bringing in reinforcements without having to pay a transfer fee is a great move by Los Blancos. That's how Alaba, Rüdiger, or Mbappé ended up arriving, and Alexander Arnold will do so.

However, if the British full-back seems to have everything tied up with Real Madrid, there's another player who doesn't. Although he is a top-tier who is becoming a free agent, Joshua Kimmich is ruled out by the white team. He was a possibility for the midfield as a replacement for Kroos.

They have studied it in the offices of Valdebebas, but they have finally ruled out signing Kimmich. According to José Félix Díaz, at Real Madrid "they believe he has already reached his peak and don't see it as appropriate." Although they value him for his quality, they don't see him as the reinforcement they need.

We are talking about a player who will turn 30 years old in a few days, and they don't see room for progression. It's true that he seemed like the best replacement for Kroos in terms of his characteristics with the ball. But they prefer to focus on options that are more reliable in the long term.

Real Madrid only has the signing of Alexander Arnold secured for this summer

There are several positions that Real Madrid wants to strengthen in the market this coming summer. However, right now they only have Alexander Arnold secured for the right-back position. On the left, the option of Davies has fallen through despite being seen as very close.

But they don't just want to sign full-backs, as the center of defense is another position that also concerns them. After Nacho's departure and not being able to sign Leny Yoro, they remain very alert to the market. It's true that the emergence of Raúl Asencio has given some peace of mind to Los Merengues.

However, they are still looking for another player who can follow in Militão's footsteps and become a world-class player. The one they like the most is Saliba, although they see it as very difficult to get him out of Arsenal. Huijsen is another alternative as he wouldn't have an outrageous price.
