Major setback for Real Madrid: Florentino forced to sign a replacement

The unexpected problem that Florentino Pérez has faced due to the upcoming departure Real Madrid will suffer

This summer transfer window keeps bringing several surprises, especially for Real Madrid. After the signings made by the club, the issue of departures remains quite present on its list of priorities. Without having decided yet which players will leave, the club has been surprised, according to what we know at Defensa Central, by Andriy Lunin's departure.

Without having finalized anything yet, Villarreal has recently inquired about the goalkeeper's services. Lunin, who has shown he has the level to play for Real Madrid, hasn't had the minutes he desired. After the 23/24 season, when he was the starter due to Courtois's injury, Lunin returned to his backup role.

With Xabi making it clear that Courtois will be its starting goalkeeper, Lunin is clearly frustrated with his situation. Although nothing is certain about his future, the fact that he doesn't want to stay at Real Madrid represents a problem for Florentino.

The loss of patience

At 26 years old, Andriy Lunin has been Thibaut Courtois's backup since 2020. Although the Ukrainian didn't have issues with this role for years, everything changed in the 23/24 campaign. Playing most of the matches and being essential to the successes achieved, Lunin returned to the bench after Courtois recovered.

Although Lunin renewed his contract with Real Madrid until 2030, the Ukrainian hasn't been a protagonist in the team again. Despite having rejected several offers in the past due to his desire to fight for the starting spot, Lunin is now seriously considering his departure.

Villarreal is a destination that, while it doesn't guarantee as many titles as Real Madrid, offers the minutes Lunin is looking for. If he accepts the proposal from the Spanish team, Florentino Pérez would have to turn to the market to sign a replacement as soon as possible.

Lunin's future

Saudi Arabia and the Premier League are also destinations Lunin could consider to leave Real Madrid this summer. With several weeks ahead to decide his future, all that remains is to wait for the resolution of this important situation.
