Maldini, Very Angry, Blasts the Direction of Refereeing in Spain
Maldini's fury unleashed to speak out against the changes in Spanish refereeing
For several seasons, Spanish refereeing has been criticized for the constant controversies it provokes. However, this campaign is particularly special for having controversies in practically every match. Questionable decisions, senseless cards, and a reliance on VAR are some of the points Maldini touched on.
Clearly upset with the direction refereeing is taking, Maldini offered his opinion. Arguing that the nature of the game is being threatened, Maldini believes it should start over. Witnessing errors that only multiply as the seasons pass, Maldini's solution is for refereeing to start anew.

VAR was also a topic for which Maldini showed deep disdain. While he understands the implementation of this technology, he believes referees rely too much on it. Using VAR for everything, Maldini proposed that it should be reserved only for the most controversial plays of the match.
Maldini's Discontent
For several matchdays, refereeing has been under the scrutiny of thousands of people following Real Madrid's letter. Expressing their dissatisfaction with refereeing and requesting the implementation of changes, the club was ignored. An attitude that upset Madridists, seeing how their intentions for more transparent and fair refereeing were not going to be possible.
Alongside Real Madrid, Maldini has now also expressed his dissatisfaction with Spanish refereeing. Considering that it has many flaws that are overlooked, Maldini has clearly shown he is tired of seeing what refereeing in Spain has become.

Describing the situation as "catastrophic," his solution could be considered to try to fix most of the problems. While a new beginning would be a step back in the changes that have been implemented, it is the only option to fix all this.
The Refereeing Spain Deserves
With Spain being a country widely recognized for the quality of its soccer, it is unfortunate to see the state of its refereeing. With the constant controversies of this season, it is evident that the situation can't continue like this for much longer.
