Maldini replied on his YouTube channel to one of the most frequently asked questions by fans: "Who will win a Ballon d'Or first, Vinícius or Mbappé?" His reply made his stance clear and opened the debate among soccer fans worldwide.

"I think Mbappé is a better player than Vinícius. I'm saying it, eh. But that doesn't mean that Vinícius, at his best, hasn't been superior to Mbappé in his current form," Maldini explained in his intervention.

For the analyst, the Frenchman has "more conditions and records" as a player, which makes him closer to becoming the best in the world.

"If he continues progressing in Madrid and maintains the level he has shown in recent years, he is the strongest candidate," he added.

Maldini also wanted to clarify his analysis. "If both are at their maximum level and Madrid wins the Champions League, Mbappé would be the favorite for the Ballon d'Or. But in soccer, everything depends on many factors, such as injuries and the context of each season," he pointed out.

Despite seeing the Frenchman a step ahead, he didn't miss the opportunity to highlight Vinícius. "We must not forget that Vinícius should have won it this year. For me, he was the deserving winner. He did more than enough to be the best in the world," he stated.
