Maldini's response about Álvaro Carreras's price: 'What it has cost...'

The surprising comment Maldini has made to share his opinion about Álvaro Carreras's transfer

After several weeks of negotiations, Real Madrid has secured the signing of Álvaro Carreras. With a fee of €50 million paid to Benfica, the club now has its reinforcement for the left-back position.  "What you pay is what you get, 50M is cheap," were Maldini's words in response to doubts about Carreras's value.

Some people believe this price is excessive for a player like the Spanish left-back. However, Maldini has defended it by comparing it to other transfers made by Real Madrid. "There are players who've cost a lot and turned out to be cheap; for example, Cristiano," Maldini added about this recent deal.

Standing out in his debut season with Benfica, Carreras managed to show his quality in several tournaments. Although, as we know from Defensa Central, Xabi still hasn't chosen his starting left-back, Carreras has a strong chance of being selected.

A reasonable price

At 22 years old, Álvaro Carreras has managed to return to Real Madrid. Having been part of the Merengue youth academy from 2017 to 2020, Carreras left in search of playing time and the opportunity to grow. These were goals he achieved with his move to Benfica last summer, where he managed to establish himself in the starting eleven.

The 4,520 minutes of playing time he accumulated throughout the campaign were a clear sign of his relevance and influence at Benfica. While Carreras is a left-back who makes a significant contribution to the team's attack, he also stands out for his defensive qualities.

The Champions League match against Barcelona is an example of this, with Carreras being able to stop Lamine Yamal. Although the value of his transfer continues to raise doubts, Maldini has called for patience with a player who still has much to prove.

The beginning of a new era

With Real Madrid's next targets for this transfer window still unknown, the signings it has made are generating excitement. Álvaro Carreras now faces the goal of justifying his value and, above all, leading Real Madrid into a new golden era.
