Mastantuono ends badly at River Plate, criticism of the 17-year-old gem: 'Vendehumo'

They go after Mastantuono and blame him for River's elimination from the World Cup

Mastantuono will be the new signing for Real Madrid starting this summer, more specifically in August. Everything has already been agreed upon and the official statement was even released to make it public. However, he has been playing the Club World Cup with River Plate, with whom he has been eliminated.

The young 17-year-old player saw how Los Millonarios lost 2-0 against Inter Milan. This result, combined with Rayados's victory, left them out of the tournament and made Mastantuono the center of criticism. In Argentina, it seems that they've singled him out.

The fans have been very critical since on social media comments like "vendehumos" have started to appear. They don't agree with his move to Real Madrid and blame him for the elimination. Even though he was the MVP of the match against Rayados and is a great professional.

Real Madrid reconsidered having him already at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso's orders. In the end, that wasn't the case and he stayed at River Plate as a final service to his team. This is an example of professionalism that many haven't appreciated, even undervaluing his performances during the tournament.

The press have also started to attack Mastantuono

If River's fans are using Mastantuono to vent their criticism, the press are doing the same. "No goals or relevant performances: this was Franco Mastantuono's quiet farewell from River," they stated in TN. They're showing no mercy.

The newspaper Olé has also referred to the elimination from the World Cup as "Mastantuono's sad ending at River." It's clear that they've made him the protagonist and, for some, the culprit. It seems that his signing for Real Madrid hasn't convinced everyone.

The journalist Mariano Closs, who is very popular in Argentina, was one of the harshest when evaluating Mastantuono's performance. "In decision-making, the most misguided in the first half was Franco Mastantuono. His decisions seemed correct, but he failed in precision, maybe he saw it, but he wasn't sharp," he said.
