Mijatovic reveals Modric's next team and surprises everyone: 'I know him very...'

The former Real Madrid midfielder talks about the legend who is saying goodbye this season

One of the changes many Madridists didn't want to happen has finally occurred sooner than desired:Luka Modric will not remain with the team next season. The departure of the Croatian '10', who will leave as a free agent and on a high note after the Club World Cup, opens multiple possibilities for the Balkan footballer.

One of the people who knows the European midfielder best, Pedja Mijatovic, has warned on 'El Larguero' of Cadena SER about the footballer's upcoming competitive goals. After all, his great dream is to play with Croatia in the 2026 World Cup: that's why he wanted to renew for one more season with Real Madrid, ensuring his draft.

That path to Zlatko Dalic's list will no longer be possible. That's why Mijatovic points out that "he won't stay in Spain, but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up playing in England, Italy, or Germany" to continue in the soccer elite. That is the quickest way to once again join his compatriots in the tournament held between the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Pedja Mijatovic foresees  that future for Luka Modric because "I know Luka very well", a player who would have "competitive hunger" even after thirteen years at the highest competitive level. His time at Real Madrid, where he has won absolutely everything, would not have diminished his desire to compete in the most demanding soccer environment on the planet

No doubts

The former Real Madrid midfielder also warns that the Croatian '10' has much more appeal than it seems: "many clubs want him". Given those hypothetical offers that would be on Luka Modric's table, the footballer "will stay in Europe. He wants to keep competing", concludes Pedja Mijatovic about the future he envisions for Luka Modric.

The Balkan midfielder would have desired to retire at Real Madrid, but that future is already impossible... as long as he keeps his goal of being present at the 2026 World Cup. Otherwise, the end of this year's Club World Cup could be his last tournament as a professional footballer, ending his career with the entity presided over by Florentino Pérez.

Pedja Mijatovic is clear: Luka Modric will seek a new team in the European soccer elite. The goal could be the 2026 World Cup, the great desire of the until now first merengue captain, which would have motivated him to continue after the 2024 Euro Cup. Without the possibility of being at Real Madrid, multiple options open up for a player of his stature and talent.

One of the people who knows Luka Modric best, however, is not sure what his next destination could be in the other four remaining major leagues. England, Italy, or Germany would be configured as his favorites, although it remains to be seen what offers he receives during the summer market of 2025.
