Neither Budimir nor Mitrovic: Leverkusen takes away one of Xabi Alonso's favorite strikers
Leverkusen act quickly and snatch a forward from Xabi Alonso for his project in Madrid
Real Madrid has taken a hugely important step in what is its most exciting revolution with Xabi Alonso's arrival to the Merengue team. Xabi Alonso is clear about his priorities for the new Real Madrid, and one of them is to strengthen the attack with a very specific profile: a box striker, physically strong, good at playing with his back to goal, and able to finish decisively.
A type of "9" that, in his view, the team needs for certain match situations. Recently, the names of Budimir and Mitrovic have been mentioned as possible options, but neither seems close to Bernabéu. However, there was another name on the list that particularly interested the new white coach: Christian Kofane.
The young Albacete striker, just 18 years old, has been one of the biggest surprises of the season in the Second Division. His impact has been immediate, scoring eight goals and becoming one of the revelations of the championship.

Leverkusen, faster
The German club, where Xabi Alonso was a champion and a key figure until just weeks ago, has acted decisively and has positioned itself as the most likely destination for Kofane. Their sporting project and the opportunities they offer to young talents have convinced the player's camp, who see an intermediate step in the Bundesliga before reaching a giant as a positive move.
Xabi considered him a profile to develop, a future piece to work on the idea of a striker who could fulfill a similar role to Joselu's.
However, Madrid hasn't moved with the necessary speed, and now Leverkusen has burst into the race for the young Cameroonian.
The main need
For Madrid, it's not a catastrophic loss, but it does show that there are profiles that interest the new coach. Xabi keeps insisting on the need for a "9" with specific characteristics.
For now, all that's left is to wait and see if the deal with the German club is finalized 100%. However, the club can't just stand by and must look for viable alternatives if necessary.
