Not Luis Díaz or Salah: the player who could help Rodrygo sign for Liverpool
Federico Chiesa has requested to return to Serie A in search of playing time, and his departure, along with the Colombian's, forces a signing
At Anfield, they're still looking for wingers and although the focus was on the possible departure of Luis Díaz, the name that could unlock Rodrygo's arrival isn't any of them. It's Federico Chiesa.
The Italian winger, signed last summer by Liverpool, wants to return to Serie A. His desire to leave the English club has sparked movement within the Reds' board. That could unexpectedly benefit Real Madrid.
Chiesa could open the door for Rodrygo
Chiesa joined Liverpool with a salary of €5 million ($5 million) per year plus bonuses. In England, he hasn't had many minutes and has already communicated his intention to leave. In Italy, several clubs are following him, especially Roma and Milan.

If his sale goes through, Liverpool would free up a spot on the wing. Most importantly, they'd receive a transfer fee, which is key to considering spending the €100 million ($100 million) that Real Madrid are asking for Rodrygo.
Until now, that price has been a barrier. Although the interest is real, the Reds weren't willing to pay that much. With Chiesa's departure, that scenario could change.
Rodrygo isn't in a hurry, but he's listening
Rodrygo, 24 years old, remains focused on Real Madrid. He hasn't asked to leave, but he knows that his role under Xabi Alonso has diminished. In the Club World Cup, the coach left him on the bench in all the important matches.
The Brazilian has a contract until 2028 and won't force his departure. However, his camp doesn't rule out listening to proposals if there are sporting guarantees and an ambitious project.

Liverpool is one of the few clubs capable of meeting both requirements. If Chiesa's departure is confirmed soon, they could speed up their attempt.
In England, there is already talk of preliminary contacts. There's no formal offer, but there are conversations. The Isak option also remains on the table, although Rodrygo is preferred by the coach, Arne Slot, due to his more technical profile and his experience in the Champions League.
The summer is long and in Valdebebas, they know that Rodrygo's future could still take an unexpected turn. Chiesa could be the first piece to trigger it.
