Neither Miguel Gutiérrez nor Grimaldo: The Left-Back Xabi Alonso Wants

The Full-Back Who Could Join Real Madrid Following the Request Made by Xabi Alonso

Throughout the season, Real Madrid has been clear about its goal for the next summer transfer market. Given the constant problems that have plagued Real Madrid, the club is clear about the need to strengthen its squad through signings. One of the positions that stands out due to Real Madrid's decision to reinforce is the left-back.

Despite having Fran García and Ferland Mendy, the performance of both players hasn't convinced throughout the campaign. While Real Madrid has considered options like Miguel Gutiérrez or Grimaldo, the club could sign another left-back for Xabi. The Basque coach, after Ancelotti's more than likely departure, is set to return to Real Madrid.

With the clear intention of improving Real Madrid's current performance, Xabi Alonso has requested the signing of Álvaro Carreras. The current Benfica player has dazzled Xabi to the point of considering him essential for the squad he seeks to build at Real Madrid.

Xabi Alonso's Desire

At just 22 years old, Álvaro Carreras is having an excellent season with Benfica. Despite it being just his first season with the club, Carreras has established himself as an essential player for all matches. Playing 4,025 minutes throughout the season, Carreras has shown potential to be a great left-back.

While Manchester United is interested in exercising the buyback option they have on Carreras, Xabi seeks to get ahead of the English. With a contract until 2029 and a clause of 50 million euros, the operation for Carreras could be undertaken by Real Madrid.

The arrival of Carreras would not only strengthen the left-back position but also be the first major signing under Xabi Alonso's leadership. Additionally, if this transfer is successfully completed, Real Madrid would give Xabi one more reason to confirm his return.

Real Madrid's Objective

Despite the great level of Miguel Gutierrez and Grimaldo, both Xabi and Real Madrid are focused on Álvaro Carreras. Although his signing could present complications, Carreras's past in Real Madrid's youth academy could work in the team's favor.
