Neither Real Madrid nor Manchester City: AI reveals the favorite to win the World Cup

An analysis conducted by Opta determines that the favorite to win the championship in the United States is PSG

The Club World Cup is about to begin. Artificial intelligence has chosen its champion based on statistics.

Opta, a leading provider of sports statistics, has used its AI-based analysis system and human annotation to determine the favorites for the title. The favorite is logical, although the top 3 is surprising.

Psg, main candidate

According to Opta's data, Paris Saint-Germain is the main favorite to win the title. Luis Enrique's team has a 19% chance of becoming champion.

PSG arrives at a great moment. They've just won the Champions League for the first time with a resounding victory over Inter Milan (5-0). The first edition of the tournament under this new format comes at the best time for the Parisians.

PSG players celebrate ecstatically, lifting the Champions League trophy surrounded by golden confetti under an arch that says WINNERS.

Manchester City is very close behind. Pep Guardiola's team has a 18% chance, according to the AI.

This is a surprising prediction, considering their poor season. Out of the Champions League in the round of 16 against Real Madrid, eliminated in the League Cup, defeated in the FA Cup final. In addition, they've finished third in the Premier League.

Even so, the statistical model keeps City as one of the top contenders. One reason for this positive forecast could be the signings of Reijnders for 70 million euros, Cherki (40), and Aït-Nouri (40).

In third and fourth place are Bayern Munich (13%) and Inter Milan (12%).

Madrid is the fifth candidate, but arrives with new signings

Further down is Real Madrid, with only a 10% chance. The white club is starting a new era with Xabi Alonso at the helm. The Basque coach will make his official debut in the tournament.

Madrid arrives with renewed hope. With important reinforcements. Huijsen joins the center of defense and Trent Alexander-Arnold strengthens the right back.

Xabi Alonso began his tenure as coach last Monday, June 9. The team has started working with the clear goal of winning the first world title with this format.

The list of favorites is completed by Chelsea (8%), Borussia Dortmund and Atlético de Madrid (both with 5%), Juventus (4%), and Benfica (3%).

The Club World Cup promises strong emotions. Although history supports clubs like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, this time the AI has another clear favorite: PSG.
