The German footballer was linked with Real Madrid before joining Liverpool

One of the biggest bombs of the summer was the signing of Florian Wirtz by Liverpool. The current Premier League champion decided to spare no expense to secure one of the biggest sensations in the Bundesliga. The "reds" paid €150 million for the footballer who has shined under Xabi Alonso in recent years.

However, Florian Wirtz was linked with three other clubs, although Liverpool ended up landing the big prize.Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City emerged as possible destinations for the German midfielder. However, the footballer's own father has stated that there was never a formal offer from the white squad.

Real Madrid didn't want to sign Florian Wirtz

In an interview with "Der Spiegel", Florian Wirtz's father explained how his move to the "red" team was arranged. "There were several clubs interested in Florian, but only Bayern and Liverpool kept themselves as serious options", stated Hans-Joachim Wirtz. However, he didn't include Real Madrid in the equation at any time.

"We'd spoken several times before, so it was as objective and fair as I'd ever known him. But, of course, he couldn't hide his disappointment. After all, he himself had worked hard to secure this transfer", commented Florian Wirtz's father.

Florian Wirtz didn't reunite with Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid

Florian Wirtz reached his highest level under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. The Real Madrid coach, whenever he's asked, always has great words for his former pupil.

"He's a gift for me as a coach. It's not about always making the most beautiful move, but the best and smartest one. Florian can do that and that's also why he's so good", explained Xabi Alonso.

However, Real Madrid never chose to make the costly signing of Florian Wirtz. The white squad decided to split that money and carry out the transfers of Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Franco Mastantuono, and Álvaro Carreras. Nevertheless, many Madridists were left wanting to see the German genius on the Santiago Bernabéu field.
