Piqué Explodes After Iker Casillas's Jab Comparing Real Madrid and Barça
Both former players have appeared on a podcast and left an interesting debate about both teams.
The most notorious rivalry in all of world soccer may be, in recent years, the one between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Both teams have grown alongside each other in Spanish soccer, leaving unforgettable moments and others that are not so much for their fans worldwide. The debates about who is above the other, despite recent years, are still ongoing.
Two of the legends of both clubs, Iker Casillas and Gerard Piqué, offered a new chapter of that century-old discussion in a podcast. The "Saint" of Móstoles, a living legend and part of the most successful history of the entity now presided over by Florentino Pérez, has no doubts. "Real Madrid is bigger than Barcelona because it has more titles", states the former Madrid goalkeeper.

The reality is that Real Madrid is one of the elite clubs worldwide that has surpassed the 100-title barrier. Carlo Ancelotti's pupils managed to surpass that mark during the 22/23 season with the victory in the Copa del Rey against Osasuna. The Merengue team, two years after that final, seeks to claim its 21st title and has a significant advantage after their narrow victory at Anoeta.
Gerard Piqué's response to these words from Iker Casillas was not long in coming. "Yes, but Barça has had several generations where it played the best soccer ever seen", argues the former Barça center-back. "There are seasons when Real Madrid has won titles and nobody remembers that" but "when Barça does it, everyone remembers how they played".

The playing style of FC Barcelona, offering a spectacle on the field, would be the reason that places the Catalan team above the Merengue squad according to Piqué. As Iker Casillas points out, Real Madrid has taken the lead in terms of titles, far surpassing the 100 official trophies barrier.
Additionally, it maintains its dominance in El Clásico, with 105 victories. FC Barcelona, after the Spanish Super Cup final, has closed the gap and would now be at 103 games won. Something similar happens with the goals in favor for each team: Real Madrid has scored 435 goals since this highly competitive and contested matchup began.

In contrast, FC Barcelona has managed to score 428 goals against Madrid in its entire history. Recent soccer history, especially in the Champions League, places Real Madrid ahead. Not only because they are the current European champions, but because of the poor performances left by the blaugrana players since they last won the competition a decade ago.
Be that as it may, the rivalry between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will continue beyond these data and statistics, as well as the opinions of two of their most recent legends. The current season offers a spectacular scenario to see who, at least for now, takes the lead in that constant dispute both in LaLiga and the Champions League.
