Álvaro Carreras's 'plan B' takes shape, he hasn't renewed and will be a free agent in a year

The target is Carreras, but there is a player in sight and he could be the ideal plan B to the Spaniard

Real Madrid continues to closely analyze the transfer market with a view to strengthening specific areas of their squad. One of the main focuses is clearly on the left-back position, where Álvaro Carreras has established himself as a priority.

However, as an alternative, an old target that seemed to have been ruled out weeks ago has gained momentum. The Merengue club has now set its sights on Myles Lewis-Skelly, one of Arsenal's academy gems. At just 18 years old, the young Englishman has attracted the attention of several top clubs due to his impressive physical presence, tactical intelligence, and ability to adapt to various roles, including that of left-back.

Although Arsenal considers Lewis-Skelly a key piece for their future, negotiations for his contract renewal are currently stalled. The player’s contract expires in 2026 and his current release clause is around €45 million. Given this situation, Real Madrid is considering the possibility of waiting another year to try to sign him as a free agent in 2026, which would allow them to avoid a high cost at this time.

An alternative path with potential

While Álvaro Carreras remains the first option, the club doesn't want to take risks. If his contract situation doesn't progress favorably, Lewis-Skelly emerges as a realistic plan B with great potential.

The Englishman’s youth and versatility make him an attractive profile for Xabi Alonso, who highly values players capable of adapting to various tactical systems. In addition, with the performance he showed against Real Madrid in the Champions League, it became very clear that the board is fully interested in him.

Real Madrid won't make a move immediately, but they have activated their radars in London. The strategy would be to keep monitoring his development throughout this season and, depending on how the renewal with Arsenal progresses, make a decision.

Patience, but with clear intent

For now, Carreras remains the main focus. However, the interest in Lewis-Skelly shows that the club is already working on solid alternatives to avoid leaving this position without a key reinforcement.
