Courtois's Plaque at the Metropolitano is News Again, Shameful

Numerous Atlético fans threw trash on the Belgian goalkeeper's badge on Atlético's field

We are not talking about something that hasn't happened more than once or twice. The plaque dedicated to Courtois outside the Metropolitano was vandalized this Sunday, just before the start of the match between Atlético - Barça.

This act of vandalism has caused great indignation, especially considering the respect that the Belgian goalkeeper has earned for his performance in Spanish soccer.

A Regrettable Gesture at the Metropolitano

The monument dedicated to Courtois, a former Atlético player and currently with Real Madrid, appeared last Sunday covered in trash and heavily stained. In several videos that have circulated on social media, it can be seen how the plaque was full of cans and trash remnants.

This is not the first incident of this type with plaques dedicated to former Atlético de Madrid players at the Metropolitano. On previous occasions, similar acts of vandalism have also been recorded, generating controversy. These acts of disrespect have yet to be condemned, even though they are tributes to players who left their mark on the club.

Let's remember that to have a plaque at the Metropolitano, you must have played more than 100 matches with Atlético de Madrid. In fact, besides Courtois, another legend of Real Madrid like Hugo Sánchez also has his own.

Another Message from Atlético to Thibaut Courtois

The figure of the Belgian goalkeeper has been trending after the Champions League match at the Metropolitano. Thibaut Courtois criticized Atlético de Madrid's victimhood after what happened in the controversial penalty action by Julián Álvarez.

However, Enrique Cerezo, president of Atlético de Madrid, did not hesitate to respond harshly to the goalkeeper last Sunday.

"What he needs to do is keep quiet. He should be grateful for having been at Atlético de Madrid. He needs to do what he did with us; be a gentleman and a nobleman", he commented.

Nevertheless, Enrique Cerezo did not take the opportunity to tell his fans how they should behave outside the venue. Undoubtedly, an image that doesn't reflect well on some red-and-white supporters.
