Real Madrid corrects with Modric's farewell and announces it right after, confirmed

One of the confirmed changes in Real Madrid's first team for the next season is Luka Modric. The Croatian '10', despite his best intentions to continue for one more season in Santiago Bernabéu locker room, has received the news:his contract will no longer be renewed. That means his time as a Real Madrid footballer will end with the Club World Cup this summer.

In the Valdebebas offices, after making that difficult decision regarding one of the club's legends, they have reached a truly surprising conclusion:they have made a mistake. Not in letting Luka Modric go, a decision they were very clear about to facilitate the definitive incorporation of younger players into the first team's dynamics.

The mistake of the leaders led by Florentino Pérez lies in the non-signing of a midfielder during the summer 2024 transfer market. The retirement of Toni Kroos after last year's Euro Cup in Germany, as well as this departure of Luka Modric, leaves a very important gap in the midfield... that only players like Arda Güler and Dani Ceballos seem capable of filling.

Despite the presence of the Andalusian footballer and the Turkish attacking midfielder, in whom they trust the most to take on the creative functions of the Real Madrid team,  the sports management is clear. They must sign a top-level player who can perform the functions of the veteran midfielders who have consecutively left Santiago Bernabéu locker room in these two years.

Real Madrid has acknowledged their mistake in letting Toni Kroos and now Luka Modric go without having previously incorporated their direct replacement. After that internal reflection, the change in the roadmap of the Real Madrid leaders seems obvious: they will sign a creative midfielder.

This Bayer Leverkusen player remains Xabi Alonso's first choice to restore the creative capabilities of the midfield. Real Madrid has now realized, after the results of the 24/25 season, the urgent need to incorporate that type of footballer into the first team. That's why their goal is to sign a playmaker like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric have been.

Florian Wirtz, however, is not the only one who would appear on the list of potential candidates for that purpose for the summer 2025 market. Now that the Real Madrid executives know they must sign a midfielder, the most difficult part of the process begins: selecting the player who truly offers the best possible fit.
