Real Madrid's response to Kees Smit's signing: the end of the rumors
The possible transfer of Kees Smit for this summer transfer window has been clarified by Real Madrid
There is no doubt that midfield is a position Real Madrid must strengthen. Without Toni Kroos and soon without Modric, the club has looked for a new leader for midfield. Among all the players it analyzed, young Kees Smit has been ruled out as a signing by the team itself.
Despite the enormous talent he has shown at AZ Alkmaar, Real Madrid will not carry out his transfer. Without ruling out interest in acquiring the Dutchman's services, the club hasn't even considered making an offer. Also shining with the Netherlands U-19 national team, Smit is a talent to keep in mind for the future.
Part of the reason for ruling out his signing is the changes Xabi Alonso has been making with the squad. By placing Güler in midfield, the Basque coach doesn't currently have the need to reinforce this position.
Xabi Alonso's midfield
At just 19 years old, Kees Smit is one of the great sensations in the Netherlands. In his first season as an AZ Alkmaar player, Smit managed to play 2,592 min. (2,592 minutes) of game time. This is more than enough time for the young Dutchman to score 10 goals and provide 7 assists, showing his influence on the team's play.

With a contract until 2028, nothing points to his departure during this summer transfer window. The player himself has shown he is extremely comfortable and satisfied at the club where he has been an academy player since 2015. Even so, his future for the coming years is uncertain.
Although Real Madrid has ruled out signing him this summer, nothing ensures it will make the same decision next time. Having signed several of the best talents in the world in recent years, Smit is a player the team can't let slip away.
More gems for the squad
For now, Bellingham, Valverde, and Güler are the ones chosen by Xabi Alonso to take charge of midfield. However, since they're playing in the Club World Cup, this midfield will need more time to consolidate or the opposite.
