They confirm Real Madrid's role in the Nico Williams case, a brutal blow to Jota Jordi

The future of the footballer from Bilbao has changed again for the second time in two years

Nico Williams's contract extension with Athletic Club de Bilbao, until the summer of 2035, is one of the major stories in Spanish soccer. After a brief but intense saga involving FC Barcelona, the Basque number 10 is extending his stay in the new San Mamés locker room.

The major blow suffered by the culé fanbase, as well as the image and prestige of FC Barcelona, is not the only one Jota Jordi has had to endure recently. The culé panelist stated he was "angry" about the way the second consecutive saga surrounding Nico Williams had been solved.

He also didn't miss the chance to point to Athletic Club de Bilbao and its fans as the "second choice" for the Spanish striker. Eduardo Velasco, who is well connected with the Basque red-and-white squad's environment, replied forcefully: "the result is what it is, you've been insisting and you haven't even managed to be the third choice".

In this context, Eduardo Velasco hints that FC Barcelona was much lower in the order of priorities managed by Nico Williams when reconsidering his future. In fact, the Basque player received approaches from the Premier League and Bayern Munich, in which a large amount of money was offered in salaries and bonuses.

Those offers were rejected... supposedly due to his explicit desire to move to FC Barcelona. But Eduardo Velasco points to the blaugrana club as the "third choice", leaving the second spot completely open for a squad that is not Athletic Club de Bilbao: Real Madrid.

The "Williams case" has been constantly surrounded by rumors suggesting the athleticzale number 10 is a fervent Madridist, a theory that would be indirectly reinforced by Eduardo Velasco's words. This very lengthy contract extension with his current team, which would end in the summer of 2035, would also allow him to buy time to thoroughly consider his next step in the European soccer elite.

One of those changes of scenery could very well be joining Santiago Bernabéu locker room. From the Valdebebas offices, they only explored the possibility of signing Nico Williams in the summer of 2023, when he could have arrived as a free agent... the saga surrounding Kylian Mbappé seemed destined to become permanently deadlocked.

Rodrygo Goes's departure, heading to a Premier League club, could offer a new scenario for Nico Williams. His contract extension allows him to keep the "dream" of wearing the white jersey alive in the short-term future, although all of this will depend on the board of directors led by Florentino Pérez.
