The reason why Xabi Alonso was going to bench Vinicius against PSG

PSG's thrashing of Real Madrid left several people singled out in the Madrid camp. One of them was Vinicius Junior, who's having a season to forget. His performance hasn't been good at all in recent months and he's far from what he used to be. 

He's neither decisive nor influential, and in the upper management at Chamartín, they're, in a sense, concerned. According to various media outlets, his contract renewal is stalled when it seemed it would be solved this summer. However, Jorge Picón, a journalist who worked at Relevo, has reported that there won't be any news in the coming months.

The serious part is that it seems the Madrid number "7" was going to be a substitute in the Club World Cup semifinal. Carlos Carpio, deputy director of Diario MARCA, said so on Rubén Martín's Twitch channel:  "Vinicius's commitment hasn't fully convinced Xabi."

He also adds that the club believes that attitude was already present when Carlo Ancelotti was on the bench, so Vini will have to change as soon as possible. It's up to him to have a great career at the world's biggest sports institution or fall by the wayside.

They still trust him 

The institution's top executives believe he has more than enough time to become that footballer who used to get Madridists out of their seats again. At his best, he's one of the best in the world, and Florentino hopes he'll show that version again.

The 25/26 season is shaping up to be a real ultimatum for him.  If the trend doesn't change, it's possible that next summer he'll end up leaving. His current contract with Real Madrid ends in 2027, and the top executives will try to make sure he doesn't leave as a free agent.

However, the best thing that could happen is for him to regain the level that's desired from him and renew until 2030 or 2031. After all, this was the initial plan and it would be a great sign. Everything depends solely and exclusively on him.
