Atlético's record signing target: Real Madrid castoff

The red-and-white club will make a strong move in the summer transfer market for one of the best strikers in Europe

Viktor Gyökeres has become Atlético de Madrid's main target to strengthen their attack for next season. This is reported by the Portuguese newspaper "Record", which also notes that the red-and-white club has taken the lead for the Sporting CP striker.

The Swedish forward, who will turn 27 years old this week, has always been favored by Metropolitano's sporting management, although his high cost had been an obstacle until now. Currently, Sporting CP is asking for between €65 million and €70 million (about $70.8 million and $76.5 million) plus bonuses for his transfer. This is still a considerable amount but lower than last year's valuation, when it was close to €100 million (about $109.4 million).

Viktor Gyökeres, one of the best strikers in the world

With 39 goals in 33 matches in the Portuguese league, Viktor Gyökeres's numbers speak for themselves. His performance has put him on the radar of several European giants since last year. However, so far no offer has met Sporting CP's financial demands.

This led the Swedish striker to stay in Lisbon for another season. This summer, after a campaign in which he has won the League and Portuguese Cup, the scenario could change.

In any case, the information from Record also notes that Julián Álvarez, Sørloth, and Correa will leave Atlético de Madrid in the coming weeks. These departures would open up the necessary space in the red-and-white squad to bring in the Scandinavian striker Viktor Gyökeres.

Julián Álvarez and Sørloth are not for sale

However, Atlético de Madrid isn't considering the departure of the Norwegian striker nor, especially, the Argentine. The bet the club made on Julián Álvarez last season was significant and paid off, as he became the team's best player.

The club's intention is to build a competitive team around him, bringing in quality players to keep growing. Meanwhile, at Real Madrid, they don't see Viktor Gyökeres's signing by Atlético as a problem, since the white scouts had previously ruled out the Swede.
