Rooney Warns Real Madrid About Signing Alexander-Arnold: 'It Wouldn't Surprise Me'

The Former Manchester United Forward Opens Up About the Drama Surrounding Liverpool's '66'

Real Madrid Has Set Several Goals for the Summer 2025 Transfer Market. The player who would occupy the top spot on that list of potential signings is none other than Trent Alexander-Arnold. The possible signing of Liverpool's '66', as a free agent, generates a lot of optimism among all levels of the Madrid club.

Indeed, the majority of sports media and journalists have indicated that the deal is "closed" at a percentage equal to or greater than "90%". While it is true that Real Madrid would have made considerable progress in that signing during the winter market, with an offer accepted pending the defender's signature...  not everyone agrees to share those good feelings.

During his interview with the BBC, a Manchester United legend has sown the seed of doubt about Alexander-Arnold's departure with the freedom from the red team. According to Wayne Rooney, "what bothers people is that he leaves for free". That statement from the former Manchester United '10' aligns with the complaints expressed by some Liverpool fans on social media to the point of requesting the cancellation of his farewell.

Despite everything, the former red devils striker insists, "this is about Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold too. We don't know why his contract was allowed to run out", a question that many Merseyside club supporters have been repeating since the second half of this season began. The possibility of losing one of their best players completely free is much more real than it initially seemed.

Doubts Persist

Wayne Rooney recalls that, while striking, it doesn't surprise him: "it's something Liverpool has already done" with world-class players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. There are also the cases of Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum, notes the former Manchester United striker. Despite that maneuver by Liverpool's leaders, the former Manchester '10' is not so sure that Alexander-Arnold will sign for Real Madrid this summer.

"Alexander-Arnold hasn't signed anything with Real Madrid", a situation as real as it is unsettling in the Valdebebas offices. The executives led by Florentino Pérez expected to have the official signature of the '66' red during January 2025... but they have encountered a refusal that keeps the 'case' open until the summer market of this same year.

"I wouldn't be surprised if, after all this, he ends up staying at Anfield", comments Wayne Rooney. "Many things can happen until a contract is signed, as I know from my experience", warns the former Manchester United striker, recalling his career in elite soccer. Thus, this warning from England generates more unease among Madrid fans because there is nothing official.

The White Leadership Still Navigates This Calm with Some Concern, without neglecting any movement around or from Liverpool's right-back. The signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold is more important than it seems, as it significantly affects the future of that key position starting in the 25/26 season.
