The Serious Problem Madrid Faces Due to Ancelotti: It's a Mess
Mendy renewed until 2027. Now, he is long-term injured and Ancelotti, his main supporter, will leave
Real Madrid is experiencing a new headache in defense. This time, everything points to a direct decision by Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach pushed for Ferland Mendy to renew his contract, despite internal doubts about his physical condition.
The club closed the renewal of the French full-back until June 2027, although it was never released. The extension took place last year, quietly.
Ancelotti insisted on keeping him in the squad as a key piece in his defensive system. But the bet has been costly.
Another Injury and Long-Term Absence
Mendy was injured during the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. Although he walked off on his own in the 11th minute, medical tests confirmed the worst: rupture of the proximal tendon of the rectus femoris in the right quadriceps. The player has had to undergo surgery.

The medical report states an estimated recovery time of 10 to 12 weeks. This means Mendy won't be able to play anymore this season and won't be available for the Club World Cup, one of Madrid's goals this summer.
It's a severe blow for the club, which is already dealing with many physical problems in defense. The situation leaves Fran García as the only natural left-back in the squad. David Alaba is also injured, and the team faces a very demanding schedule.
A 'Mess' That Conditions the Future
Mendy's situation represents a serious problem for the sports management. On one hand, he has a contract in force until 2027 with a high salary. On the other hand, his injury history complicates his continuity and possible exit in the market.

In the summer, Madrid will have to decide whether to look for a new left-back or continue trusting a player with constant relapses. The name of Milos Kerkez has reappeared as an option, as well as Álvaro Carreras from Benfica.
Ancelotti bet on Mendy. But now the club must deal with the consequences. The quiet renewal of the Frenchman has become one of the most delicate issues in the white market.
