Tebas Hurts Real Madrid Ahead of Possible Champions League Round of 16

La Liga has published the schedule for matchday 26, setting Real Madrid's game for Sunday, March 2, while Barça and Atleti will play on Saturday.

La Liga has published the schedule for Matchday 26, the last one before the Champions League Round of 16.

Real Madrid will play on Sunday, March 2 at 4:15 PM against Betis. Meanwhile, Atlético and Barcelona, already qualified for the next round, will play on Saturday.

In the official schedule, La Liga indicates that the times may change if Real Madrid advances in the Champions League. However, initially, they haven't taken precautions despite the favorable 2-3 result in the first leg.

Atlético and Barça already know they will play in the Round of 16. That's why their league match is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, guaranteeing them more rest. In contrast, Madrid, which still needs to confirm its qualification, has been scheduled for Sunday.

Less Rest Than Their Rivals

The Round of 16 will be played between March 4 and 5. All teams aim to arrive with as much rest as possible, but Real Madrid is the only one of the three Spanish teams that will play away from home the weekend before.

Barcelona vs. Real Sociedad - Saturday 6:30 PM at Montjuïc

Atlético vs. Athletic - Saturday 9:00 PM at the Metropolitano

Real Madrid vs. Betis - Sunday 4:15 PM at the Villamarín

If Madrid plays its European match on Tuesday, La Liga could move the match against Betis to Saturday. But if the Champions League match is on Wednesday, it will remain on Sunday, giving them less rest than Atlético or Bayer Leverkusen, their possible rivals.

Real Madrid, Disadvantaged by the Schedule

It is not the first time the white club has been affected by the schedule. This season, they have played most of their away matches at 9:00 PM. Returning to Madrid in the early hours with very little recovery time.

Now, the problem is different. Playing at 4:15 PM in Seville implies extra physical effort due to the heat and less rest than their possible rivals in the Round of 16.

Once again, Javier Tebas and La Liga are putting obstacles in Real Madrid's way at a crucial moment of the season.
