Tebas Leaks an Email from Real Madrid to Make Florentino Look Bad with the Schedules
The Controversy Over Schedules Lives a New Chapter with This Email Revealed on Cadena SER
One of the major ongoing issues that Real Madrid has faced for several years in Spanish soccer is with LaLiga as an institution. The animosity between Florentino Pérez and Javier Tebas, the leaders of Real Madrid and the championship respectively, has led to hundreds of controversial actions, statements, and leaks.
The latest leak from LaLiga targets Real Madrid for a very striking issue: the schedules. Carlo Ancelotti's complaints after the match against Villarreal were a threat not to present Real Madrid if the 72 hours of rest mandated by FIFA were not respected. Those words have sparked a significant debate that now continues with an email sent by Real Madrid to LaLiga requesting a schedule change.

The white team's sports discipline visits Mendizorroza this very Sunday at 4:15 p.m., a match that doesn't allow enough recovery time for the clash against Arsenal. According to Cadena SER, the first thing Real Madrid does is contact Alavés to change the match date to Saturday... a schedule that would provide more rest and preparation time for the return leg of the quarter-finals against the gunner team.
The Alavés entity shows no problem and responds to Real Madrid: now the white club must contact LaLiga to inquire about that schedule change. Then "that's when Madrid contacts LaLiga by phone for the first time to communicate the request" around which both clubs are in complete agreement.
Difference of Opinions
In this situation, Real Madrid received this response: "to formalize this request you are making, it's best if you send us an email to formalize it and have it registered with us". Real Madrid complies with this request from LaLiga: "as you well know, this match is strategically placed between the games we play against Arsenal" in the Champions League.
"Bringing forward the match against Deportivo Alavés would allow us more time to adequately prepare both for that commitment and the decisive match on Wednesday the 16th at Santiago Bernabéu", they argued. LaLiga made it clear that they couldn't make that change because "they should have been notified before" March 20... the date on which the schedules for the current LaLiga matchday were published.

However, that requirement from LaLiga seems impossible to meet: Real Madrid can't 'predict' the date of their next match in the top domestic competition. Meanwhile, LaLiga keeps that the club should have notified its current competitive situation to the organization itself... to take it into account when selecting the schedules for matchday 31 of the 24/25 season.
In fact, Real Madrid is the only team playing in the Champions League quarter-finals that plays their league match on a Sunday. The rest of the participating clubs, including those from other national tournaments, have their domestic commitment scheduled for today, Saturday, April 12, 2025.
