When Does Real Madrid Play the Champions League Round of 16: Possible Opponents

Real Madrid defeated Brest, but didn't manage to qualify among the top eight in the regular phase

Real Madrid achieved a 0-3 victory against Brest in their last group stage game of the Champions League. On a day full of excitement, Carlo Ancelotti's men secured the win in their first visit to Stade du Roudouorou.

Rodrygo Goes, with a spectacular maneuver and a great shot, scored the first goal of the game. In the second half, Brest equalized the game, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside. Finally, Real Madrid sealed the game with goals from Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo Goes.

Despite the victory, Real Madrid didn't secure a direct pass to the round of 16. Thus, the Whites will have to play an additional round that will take place in the weeks of February 11th-12th and February 18th-19th.

Real Madrid, finishing in eleventh position, will play the first game away and the second at Santiago Bernabéu.

Who could be Real Madrid's opponents?

For now, the reigning European champion hasn't yet defined their next opponent in the Champions League. However, they already know they will face Manchester City or Celtic de Glasgow in the round of 32. The team that doesn't face Real Madrid will have to compete against Bayern Munich.

Additionally, at Real Madrid, they have also accepted that they wouldn't play the second leg of the round of 16 at Santiago Bernabéu. The Madridists' opponent in that phase will be Bayer Leverkusen or Atlético de Madrid.

When is the draw for the next round of the Champions League?

This Friday starting at 12:00 PM, the draw for the round of 32 of the Champions League will take place. In it, the teams from positions 9 to 24 and the side of the bracket they will go to will be defined. It will be when Real Madrid definitively knows their opponent for the first round.
