A reader of the newspaper AS posed a direct question to the editorial staff of the Madrid-based outlet. "Will Real Madrid part ways with Ferland Mendy and bet on the return of Miguel Gutiérrez?", he commented.
Xabi Alonso's Possible Plans at Real Madrid
The response came from journalist Agustín Martín. "Well, it all depends on what happens with Ancelotti's future", he explained initially. "The Italian is a fan of Mendy's defensive qualities, and he has even mentioned in some press conferences that he has renewed", he commented.
"The option to bring back Miguel Gutiérrez is feasible for several reasons: one, because of his play. He is a full-back with a long range, meaning he likes to join the attack more than Mendy", he stated.

On one hand, Ferland Mendy recently signed a contract extension with Real Madrid until June 2027. However, that doesn't guarantee he will continue wearing white next season.
On the other hand, Miguel Gutiérrez could be repurchased by Real Madrid this summer, for the third consecutive time. It is worth remembering a clause that allows his return for around 10 million euros.
Everything points to this being his last campaign at Girona. However, with the arrival of Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, the player could have more options to stay.
