Xabi asks Real Madrid for a necessary sale to secure the signing it is still missing
The coach has requested to sell Mendy because he trusts Fran García's abilities more as an alternative to Carreras
Real Madrid has made an important decision. At Xabi Alonso's request, Ferland Mendy has been put on the market. The Basque coach considers it essential to free up space and salary to finalize one last key signing.
The idea is clear: keep Fran García and Álvaro Carreras as the two left-backs for next season. The Frenchman, relegated to the third option, isn't part of the new coach's plans.
Total trust in Fran García
Xabi wants to keep counting on Fran García. The youth academy product was one of the standout names at the Club World Cup.
His performance has convinced everyone within the club. He started in every match except one and delivered at a high level throughout the season.

The left-back played 54 official matches and logged more than 3,500 min. (3,500 minutes), largely thanks to Mendy's injuries. His effort and reliability have been decisive for the club to reject all offers that have come in for him.
Despite the rumors, Fran García hasn't negotiated with AC Milan. The player's own agent, Ginés Carvajal, has denied any approach. In addition, the Italian club has already signed Estupiñán to strengthen that position.
The player's desire is clear: to stay at Real Madrid. He has a contract until 2027 and is even considering a renewal if his role is kept as it is now.
Mendy, no place and on the way out
Meanwhile, Mendy's future is far from Bernabéu. His injury history and age make his continuity difficult. In addition, his recent renewal until 2028 hasn't changed the club's perception.

Real Madrid is willing to facilitate his departure. Although there aren't any formal offers yet, the left-back isn't expected to get minutes in the preseason. His salary also represents a cost the club wants to lighten.
Xabi Alonso has already given the green light and Mendy's sale is necessary. Not only to avoid an excess of players at left-back, but also to make room for the missing signing. A move that's expected in the coming weeks.
