Conversation With VAR on Camavinga's Penalty Comes to Light: 'He Steps on Him...'
The French footballer was once again the negative protagonist of the day for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid, after the draw in the Madrid classic, had a match of great importance at El Sadar. With a distance of just one point from Atlético de Madrid and two over FC Barcelona, the visit to Osasuna had to be settled with a victory obligatorily. The match started as everyone had predicted, leaving a goal by Kylian Mbappé.
But the situation was going to worsen very quickly and in a very short time. Besides the controversial direct red card expulsion of Jude Bellingham, who defended himself in Real Madrid's official media giving his version of what happened, there is the penalty. The foul committed by Eduardo Camavinga on Ante Budimir, which the Pamplona forward himself converted into a goal minutes later, is giving much to talk about.

Especially following the conversation between the VAR referee, Trujillo Suárez, and the field referee, Munuera Montero. Initially, the Andalusian referee doubted whether to consider that action as a penalty, but from the VAR he received a notice that made him reconsider his opinion a few seconds later. Munuera Montero approached the screen after a brief deliberation and, when he finished viewing the action, decided to award the maximum penalty in favor of Osasuna.
"I recommend an OFR for you to assess a penalty action for a stomp in the area", notes Trujillo Suárez. After watching the replay of the play a couple of times, Munuera Montero reaches a conclusion: "he hits recklessly, he clearly steps on him". He also requests "another camera, please, put me reverse" to be sure in his final decision.
Striking Sequence
After seeing another take of the action, where Camavinga clearly steps on Ante Budimir, Munuera Montero's verdict could not be clearer. "Stop it at the contact, stop it at the contact, there. He never touches the ball, doesn't touch the ball", describes the field referee of the Osasuna-Real Madrid match.
With those images viewed, Munuera Montero understands that Camavinga "doesn't touch the ball and steps on him," so it's "penalty and yellow card". Just seconds after that conversation, which in the VAR they close with a "heard, received", the referee made the VAR review gesture... and pointed to the penalty spot against Real Madrid.

Real Madrid, thanks to that penalty reviewed in the VAR by Munuera Montero and Trujillo Suárez, could only obtain one point from their visit to El Sadar. Madridism once again expresses its indignation on social media due to the two possible penalties that might have been committed on Vinícius Jr... and that would have made the difference in this 'trap match' due to its placement in the white team's calendar.
With the aim of overcoming this significant disappointment in LaLiga, Carlo Ancelotti's pupils must strengthen themselves and beat Manchester City. The conclusion of the round of 16 tie against the sky blue team will be on next Wednesday, February 19 at Santiago Bernabéu, a key match in the 24/25 season.
